Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree...

Well... it is finally Christmas time Advent, and Christmas is right around the corner.  This may be my favorite time of year... I just love all of the traditions that go with Christmas.  There are so many traditions that are wonderful to share with your family.  One of my FAVORITE traditions is getting and decorating the Christmas tree.

I am a little obnoxious about making sure we get the right tree.  My sister and brother may say I get it from my dad... He is an EXPERT tree picker-out-er and tree decorator.  He taught me it has to be full and have thick branches and bristles.  Then when we get it all set up in our house he taught me to trim the tree so there there are nice  holes to fill with heavy beautiful ornaments.  I would always help my dad hang the lights so I am now an expert :)  In our family we start with the large colored lights.  They go around the center of the tree.  Then white lights go around the outer branches.  And finally its time to hang the ornaments!!

One thing I love about Christmas trees is that EVERYONE has a different way to decorate their Christmas tree.  Some people do as we do with large colored and white lights.  Some only put white while others only put colored.  Then you have the large colored or the small colored... there are just so so so many ways to decorate a Christmas tree :)  I love seeing Christmas trees in the windows and noticing how each family chooses to decorate their own tree.  I am sure everyone knows that their tree is decorated the right way ;)

Anyway... I guess thats enough ranting about Christmas trees... Here is our tree this year... JUST PERFECT!!

(We couldn't put any lights or ornaments at the bottom of the tree because Joe would love to eat them  :)  And... those are not all real presents.  All of the big boxes are empty but are just there to keep Joseph from crawling under the tree :) )

Just another one of Joseph's firsts... (or mine)

Today Joseph woke up a little early from his nap looking like this...

A little serious...
There's that smile
I guess he slept well :)  The only solution to this awesome bedhead... A BATH!!

Joseph LOVES baths as most babies do and was so excited when he heard the water running.
Time for a bath!!
He loves to splash and has lots of toys to play with in the tub.
I normally try to capture a picture but he is always moving too fast and splashing for it to come out.
But today he sat still for a moment and I got to capture him in the tub...

Sorry for the bad quality... phone pic
What a sweet baby!!

Then I found out why he sat so still for a moment...

Thats right... uh huh... we had our first poopy in the tub.

I think I handled it pretty well... I was calm.  It was small.  He already had soap in his hair. I stood him up.  Washed his body down with clean water and took him out of the tub.

So for now on this first day of thanksgiving break... I am thankful it was only small ;)

Joseph's Room

I have finally made some progress on Joseph's bedroom.  I am only about halfway done with his room but I thought I would let yall get a sneak peek.  I found a sailboat fabric I loved and so that is where I started.  I then found coordinating fabrics and trim... here they are :)

I then decided I wanted to paint a stripe around his room so I pick up on the colors in the sailboat fabric.
I did a wide blue stripe and thought the contrast between the wall color and the stripe was too much so I found a darker beige I happened to have a painted a smaller stripe above and below the large stripe.  Here is where I taped off the large stripe.  You can also see what the room looked like before.

I also recovered the headboard in the blue stripe fabric.

We still need to actually hand the headboard.  I also want to paint the side tables and get new lamps.  I am going to keep the white bedding.  This will one day be his bed.

I am also going to make a few pillows for his bed using the sailboat fabric and the red stripe fabric.
I just finished sewing the window treatments for his room.  I now have to get a wooden rod to place about the window and hang them.  They are right now stuck up with push pins.

I love the trim I put on them.  You cant really see here.  I will post better pics later when I actually get them hung up.  I also need to work on staining a wooden dresser for his room.

Its coming... still a lot to do but I have gotten a whole lot done :)

To do list: (Joe's Room)
1. Paint
2. Re upholster headboard
3. Hang Headboard
4. Sew window treatments
5. Hang window treatments
6. Make pillows for bed
7. Make bed skirt
8. Stain dresser
9. Paint side tables
10. Artwork - I have painted two out of three peices
11. Bookshelves (buy and hang)
12. Hang other frames
13. Lamps

I think that is all... whew!! I really do have A WHOLE LOT to do :)

Where has the time gone??

Yesterday marked Joseph's 9 month birthday!
I CANNOT believe that he is nine months old... but he is.  WHERE HAS THE TIME GONE???
Here are some things that Joseph has been up to in the past month :)

Joseph had his first real sickness :(  It started out with a cold and then went into a fever that ended in pink eye and an ear infection.  Poor baby.  We had eye drops three times a day and bubble gum medicine.
He did great!! The hardest part was the fever and pink eye.
He was so brave during the whole thing and is now MUCH MUCH better!!
He is crawling around the house and I am having a hard time baby proofing fast enough!! If any mothers out there have baby proofing advice let me know!  He took a three week break crawling while he was sick but now is back in action :)  He is also pulling up... again where has the time gone??
His favorite toys are cars and trucks... figures.
And he learned to roll them around and make a car noise from his cousin Kolbe :)
He LOVES to play with his daddy.  Daddy is so much fun and so silly!
He now has seven teeth and chews on EVERYTHING!
He also loves giving us kisses. At least thats what we think he is doing.
He puts his mouth on our cheeks or arms and blows giving us a "zerbert" or whatever you call them.
But we think they are sweet kisses :)
Thats all for now... Joseph is calling me to play with him :)
Hope you have a wonderful wednesday!

Busy Bee...

Well... Still no post about our other furniture.  Sorry for the delay in blogging.  Here is some of what we have been up to in the past weeks...

Joseph is officially on the move :)  He's kinda got an "army crawl" as they call it but nonetheless he is moving around the living room and into the kitchen and getting his hands one everything.  So we have been baby proofing the house :)

We have also been just trying to enjoy each day with Joseph knowing that he keeps growing every minute :(  We are LOVING being in the Alabama October weather and our backyard.  Joseph loves to be outside and to go on strolls.  He enjoys watching nature, all of the birds and squirrels, and the sun shining.  He also loves riding in his new ride (or nana and pops toy ride)...

Driving around in my automobile

No big deal... I can drive with one hand :)

Joseph is also into food.  He LOVES his baby food...
He also has 6 teeth and has had them for awhile...
He sometimes won't let go of the spoon once it's in his mouth...  so it just sits there :)
Silly baby Joseph

Here is a video of some of our fun around the house...

That's all for today! Hope you are having a blessed week!

Furniture is here!!

Ok... well our furniture has been here for a week but I am behind in my blog.

Here are some pics of our new couch for the Family Room!  I am so excited about it and we are LOVING having more places to sit ;) We love our new couch because it is very sturdy and is also a pull out sofa which will be useful in years to come.  Its also VERY comfortable for a nice nap  :)

Back wall still needs some artwork but its all coming together!

We love our "coffee table" in this room.  We are just using an ottoman but it so nice because it rolls out of the way when we are playing with Joe but comes back when were done.  Its also nice because we can place it right under the fan in the room so people don't hit their head on the low light.  We are looking forward to replacing the fan but... all in good time :)

Feels like home :)
Notice Joseph's piece of furniture... haha.  He sure does love his jumpy jig... or whatever its called

Ill post about the Living Room soon... I first need to post about a coffee table project we did for the LR and then ill post all of the new pics :)

Bedding

I LOVE pottery barn bedding.  We just bought a king size bed and I am so excited...
but I am even more excited about the bedding.

We have three sets of bedding from pottery barn... maybe this is a little extreme but I just love it!  All of it is machine washable which is wonderful for a family on a budget... no dry cleaners for me :)  They have so many fun quilts and duvets.  Our first bedding we got from our wedding registry at pottery barn.  The second came when we needed a nice guest bedroom quilt.  And now with the king bed we just purchased our third set (and it was on sale!!).

Its all actually pretty reasonably priced.  Lots of people think pottery barn is expensive but it really is the best quality for the lowest price.

I love the look of a Solid Quilt with a patterned duvet... So here is what we selected...
Camilla Duvet and Sham
Hanna Quilt and Sham
Ill post a pic when it all gets set up on our new bed which will arrive sometime this week!!

Here is some other pottery barn bedding I love...

Sienna Duvet - this is what we have currently
Alisa Embroidered Duvet

Thats all I have for now... Enjoy your sunday!

Life is moving fast...

Its amazing to me how fast time flies.  I cannot believe Joseph is already 7 months old.  He is such a joy in our lives and I  treasure each moment with him.

I just came out from putting him down for a nap.  I just love laying with him before he falls asleep.  He loves to put his hands on my face and lean in so close and snuggle.  I love to pray out loud for him, for his daddy and for myself.  I thank God for him and for our family.

It's sad that I am often times scared to tell this to people because I will then be told what I am doing wrong... that I shouldn't lay with him, he won't learn to fall asleep on his own or some other opinion.  Its sad that I am scared to tell people Joseph sleeps with me for fear of being judged or scolded because Philip and I "need our own space".  Everyone has a different way of raising their family.  In my opinion, it really does not matter when you start feeding solids, when or where they go to sleep, if you give them a passy, or when and where you start them in school.  All that really matters is that you love them with your whole heart and do your very best as a parent to lead them to heaven.

Being new parents people always ask Philip and myself what is the hardest part.  We both agree that its the unasked opinions and unwanted advice people give as to what we need to do and how other people are doing it wrong.  Don't get me wrong I love advice.  I love watching my sister and her friends raise their families.  I love hearing friends family stories.  I also love getting advice when I need it and feeling reassured when I hear other families are going through the same problems as we are.

Philip and I have decided that we want to be a close nit family.  We only have a few precious years with Joseph while he is a young child.  I have heard from my parents, aunts and uncles to enjoy each minute with Joseph and our young family because these are the best years of our life.  I am trying to do just that as I know many other young families are doing.

Sweet moments
At the end of my life I want to have done everything in my power to ensure that I lead my family to heaven and will see them there one day.  It won't matter how I did it, what school they went to, where they slept, what sports they played, or what cool vacations we went on.  I want to have loved my family as much as I can love, given as much to my family as I can give and prayed for my family as much as I can pray... That is all that really matters in the end :)

What a big boy in his high chair playing with puzzles :)
My loves :)

Fabrics in the Family Room

We used to have a large sectional in our family room that many of my followers probably remember.  It was a wonderful couch but it was too soft for Philips back (he had back surgery about a year and a half ago).  We decided to find a firmer couch so that we could actually sit together during our movie nights instead of philip needing to sit in a supportive chair or our loveseat couch.  Anyway, my parents had another couch that they did not need and had it recovered for my birthday :)  The fabric we chose is brown because I like how it will hide spills as our children grow up.   It is also very sturdy.  I chose and Ikat pattern fabric for our window treatments and pillows.  Then I just picked out two other fabrics for pillows.  We have a love seat couch as I mentioned earlier that I was hoping matched all of these fabrics as well as a lazy boy rocker which was the perfect piece of furniture to have when joseph was born.  It all goes which is great for now.  I would love to one day recover the love seat but for now it will do :)

Ikat fabric for pillows and window treatments

The brown is for the couch, Ikat is for window treatments, and the other
 two are for pillows.

I then made a Valence for the Family Room with the Ikat Fabric.
I used some scrap fabric to line the back of the Valence.

Here it is hanging in our house :)

I have only made one pillow with our new fabrics.  I am waiting on the couch to come in to see how I want to arrange the furniture before I make any more.

There you have it... all of my ideas for our Family Room.  Check back soon to see pics of the space once our couch arrives and see how it all looks together!

Hope your having a wonderful day!
